How to Set Up Weekend and Bank Holiday Surcharges in QuoteKit

Weekend, evening and bank holiday surcharges can be set up in QuoteKit to apply automatically. This means out-of-hours jobs are always priced correctly without you having to adjust quotes manually.

Why surcharges matter

Out-of-hours jobs cost you more to deliver. A Saturday delivery, an evening clean or a bank holiday callout involves higher fuel costs, driver premiums or simply the inconvenience of working outside normal hours. If your widget quotes the same rate for a Monday morning job and a Sunday evening job, you are either undercharging on the Sunday or overcharging on the Monday.

QuoteKit solves this by applying surcharges automatically based on the date and time the customer selects for their booking.

Setting up surcharges

In your QuoteKit dashboard, go to Booking Settings and find the Surcharges section. You can configure separate surcharges for:

  • Weekend rate - applies to jobs booked on Saturday or Sunday
  • Evening rate - applies to jobs booked after a time you specify, for example after 6pm
  • Bank holiday rate - applies automatically on UK bank holidays
  • Same-day rate - applies when the customer selects the current day as their booking date

Each surcharge can be set as a percentage increase or a fixed amount added to the total.

How it works for the customer

When a customer selects a booking date and time, QuoteKit checks whether any surcharges apply and adjusts the displayed price automatically. If a customer selects a Saturday job with a 15 percent weekend surcharge, they see the surcharge itemised in the price breakdown. There are no surprises when you confirm the booking.

Bank holiday detection

QuoteKit automatically detects UK bank holidays so you do not need to manually flag dates. The bank holiday surcharge applies on the correct dates without any input from you.

Testing your surcharges

Use the widget preview in your dashboard to test different booking dates. Select a Saturday, a Sunday and a weekday to confirm the surcharges are applying correctly. Check that the price shown matches your expected rate for each scenario before going live.

Surcharges are one part of a system that prices jobs automatically

Automatic surcharges are one of the features that separates a proper quoting system from a basic calculator. But they are part of a wider picture.

QuoteKit also applies real road distance pricing for courier and removal jobs, supports fixed pricing with optional extras, handles per-unit pricing for landscapers and trades, generates PDF quotes customers can download, captures lead details automatically on every submission, tracks email delivery so you know if a confirmation reached the customer, and manages booking requests with one-click confirmation.

Every one of those things is something a basic calculator or AI-generated form will not do. The surcharge logic alone would take a developer time to build correctly - UK bank holidays, same-day detection, time-based evening rates. QuoteKit handles all of it out of the box, configured in minutes from your dashboard.
